The Problem- dealing with fatigued legs after sport

For the elite athlete, recovery systems such as massage are usually set in place and if it is a large event, they have recovery teams complete with equipment-for massage they use tables, oil, towels and other paraphanalia

For those in less fortunate levels, the would be elite, the could be elite, the amateur, the pretenders, the hackers, tryers, juniors and those just helping out as supporters there is less assistance available

No matter what country you are in, what sport you play or what level you play (
unless it is very elite level) there is always a shortage of people to look after the recovery of all those who need assistance with recovery after the event

As a result, after the game, event, race is over they strip off their uniforms, pack their gear away and very stiffly and sorely stagger off home to lick their wounds and recover the best they can

but with a simple recovery plan

it is possible though to go from

one extreme of being totally exhausted to being on your feet again reasonably quickly when you work with the muscles-not on them

Stages of recovery after sport

To get to the stage where recovery is needed, the muscles go through the following stages

0-Event starts

1-Fresh legs muscles at efficient level

2-Gets into stride muscles at most efficient

3-Muscles tighten efficiency starts to drop off

4-Muscle soreness efficiency deteriorates

5-Muscle fatigue they are gone

well maybe not this bad! but they may feel like it

Muscle recovery starts

as soon as the activity stops the body's repair processes kick in and while manual assistance given from outside the muscles can't actually achieve any recovery, appropriate work can help facilitate it

Immediate Post Event Recovery

  • Acute

The body is recovering at Micro Cellular level-any work done on the muscles may impact on and break into the bodies own recovery processes leading to them having to start repair again

Post Event Recovery

  • Sub Acute

Micro Cellular repair is well under way, but can still be disrupted by working on the muscles-any work done to assist the body's recovery at these stages should be light relaxing work that will not add further stress to the already 'at risk' muscle tissues

other than knowing all this-what is cheap and can help those who just want to get out there and play and compete improve their sport?

  • a faster recovery!

to see how a faster recovery can affect performance look at the chart below

this is the event at which I developed Light Manual Muscle Relaxation-it is a six day run at Colac in Victoria in 1965-the number of laps of the track are counted by an independent scorer then the distances of each 24 hour period are collated across the page

the improvements in performance in the 24 hours as I got the approach to recovery perfected are underlined (they go up and down because I kept going back to the conventional system of working
on the muscle rather than with them

It was not until the run finished that I was able to see the final overall scores and compare the differences in figures (I was working 22 hours a day and was totally exhausted to care to look on a daily basis)

  • Another point to make

for a not comprehensive list of events Light Manual Muscle Relaxation has been tested at see references

In ultra marathon which continues on for days, each time a runner or walker comes in for help because their muscles have stopped working or they have stiffened up after resting, or or sore, tight, sick, exhausted or whatever

the work done in my recovery area is

  • pre-event

  • immediate post event

  • post event

  • recovery

If you are one of the unlucky people who finish a game or event and you miss out on a place in the recovery area

here are some points to consider

  • what are you going to do about it?

are you going to accept it or take some positive action?

  • who are you going to get to deal with it?

do you know anyone who can help you recover the legs and what is their background?

  • how close is the help?

when you are fatigued are they going to come and help you recover?

  • how much can you afford to pay for it?

what is their cost and will they be ongoing?

there is a shortage of experienced people who deal with recovery after sport and you may not have access to any of them when you need it

Light Manual Muscle Relaxation solves the problem

it lets you become independent of others-simply do it yourself!
(its easier than you think)

Recovery and Rehabilitation

Conventional work on the muscles can now be done which includes sorting out any injury and problems that have developed
